The Successful Warrior

What does it really take to succeed? We often imagine that successful people possess something the rest of us don't. They are more talented, more confident, more intelligent or somehow better equipped to deal with the challenges life puts in their way.

But the idea behind “The successful warrior is the average man with laser-like focus” challenges that belief. The poster is built around motivation and self-esteem, and its message is surprisingly simple: success doesn't always belong to the most gifted person in the room. It can belong to the person who knows what they want and refuses to allow distractions to take them away from it.

Focus doesn't mean that life will suddenly become easy. There will still be setbacks, disappointments and moments when you question whether you are doing the right thing. You may even discover that the goal you started with is no longer the goal you want.

The important thing is learning to distinguish between a genuine change of direction and the doubts that make you want to give up.

Too often, we underestimate ourselves before we have even begun. We decide that somebody else is more capable, more talented or more deserving of success. We compare our beginning with somebody else's finished result and convince ourselves that we cannot compete.

You are not broken. You don't have to be extraordinary to begin. You need to be willing to learn, keep going and give your attention to what matters.

Focus means deciding what deserves your energy and refusing to waste that energy on every distraction, doubt or opinion that comes your way. You may be more capable than you think. Success may have less to do with being exceptional and more to do with discovering what happens when you give something your full attention.
