Positive thinking affirmations on Video

A few seconds of positive thinking can be useful. They are not a magic solution. These short video affirmations are part of the Powerful Positive Thinking collection because sometimes a simple thought, seen or heard at the right moment, can make you stop and look at a situation differently. Each video takes only a few seconds and offers a positive idea or reminder that you can return to whenever you need a little inspiration.

But there is an important point about affirmations that sits at the heart of Michael Younge's approach to positive thinking: an affirmation, on its own, is unlikely to change your life.

Telling yourself that you are successful does not make you successful. Repeating that you are confident does not automatically remove the fear that has been stopping you from taking action. Saying that money is coming your way doesn't put money in your bank account, and telling yourself that everything will be wonderful doesn't make difficult circumstances disappear. So why have affirmations on the site at all?

Because the words you repeatedly use can influence the way you think, and the way you think can influence the choices you make. An affirmation can act as a reminder, a prompt or a moment of reflection. It can interrupt an unhelpful thought and give you an opportunity to consider another possibility. That distinction is important.

These videos aren't here to persuade you that the Universe will deliver whatever you ask for, nor are they intended to turn you into a permanently positive person. They are small prompts that may help you question a negative assumption, recognise an opportunity, remember something you already know or simply give yourself a moment to think before reacting.

For example, telling yourself "I can take one step" may be more useful than repeatedly telling yourself that you are going to achieve everything you have ever wanted. The first statement encourages action. The second can become little more than wishful thinking if nothing follows it.

The same applies to affirmations about confidence, relationships, money, happiness or success. The words themselves are not the transformation. What you think about them, what you learn about yourself and what you subsequently choose to do are where the real value lies.

This is why we encourage you not simply to watch an affirmation and move on. Pause for a moment and ask yourself whether the statement means anything to you. Does it challenge something you have been telling yourself? Does it make you recognise a fear that has been holding you back? Does it suggest something you could actually do differently?

If the answer is yes, then the 25 seconds may have been worthwhile. Michael Younge's philosophy is not about endlessly adding positive thoughts to your mind while ignoring everything that is difficult or uncomfortable. It is about understanding the thoughts already there and questioning the beliefs that may be preventing you from moving forward.

You are not broken, and you don't need an affirmation to fix you. You may simply have spent years listening to a voice that has told you what you cannot do, who you are supposed to be or why you aren't good enough. Sometimes a positive statement can provide a different voice, but ultimately you have to decide which voice you believe and what you are prepared to do about it.

Think of these videos, therefore, as prompts rather than promises. Use them when you need a reminder. Download the ones that mean something to you. Watch them again when a particular message is useful. But don't expect the video to do the work for you. Let the thought start something. Then take it into the real world.

We will continue adding new affirmations and thought-provoking videos to the collection. If there is a statement that has particular meaning for you, you can also submit it to us in no more than 55 words, and we may turn it into a short video presentation to share with other PowerThon members. Because sometimes a few words can make you stop and think. And sometimes that is where change begins.
