I Am Born Smart
What if being smart is not something you have to prove? From an early age, we are encouraged to measure intelligence. School grades, exams, qualifications and comparisons can create the impression that some people are naturally clever while others are not. Over time, those judgments can become part of the way we see ourselves. But intelligence is far more complicated than a number on a piece of paper.
Being smart can mean asking good questions, recognising patterns, solving problems, learning from mistakes, understanding people or seeing possibilities that others have missed. It can mean being curious enough to admit that you do not know something and determined enough to find out.
The problem begins when we convince ourselves that intelligence belongs to other people.
You may have struggled at school. You may have been told that you were not academic. You may have compared yourself with someone who seemed to understand everything faster. None of those experiences has to define what you are capable of today.
Your mind is not finished. You can learn. You can develop new skills. You can change your understanding. You can discover abilities that have never had the opportunity to emerge.
That is what makes the statement “I am born smart” interesting. It does not have to mean that you were born knowing everything. It can mean that you were born with a mind capable of learning, questioning and developing.
Do not confuse what you know today with everything you are capable of knowing tomorrow. You do not need somebody else to certify your potential. Believe in your ability to learn. Your intelligence is not a finished product.
