Positive Things Will Happen

There is something incredibly powerful about believing that positive things will happen. Not because you imagine that life will suddenly become perfect, but because your expectations influence the way you experience the life you already have.

Too many of us spend our time preparing for what might go wrong. We imagine the conversation that could go badly, the opportunity that might disappear or the plan that might fail. We protect ourselves against disappointment by expecting it. The problem is that when you constantly look for the negative, you become remarkably good at finding it.

Positive thinking asks you to do something very different. It asks you to leave a little room for possibility.

That doesn't mean pretending everything is wonderful. Life will always contain setbacks, disappointment and uncertainty. Positive thinking isn't about denying those things. It is about refusing to allow them to become your permanent expectation.

When you begin to believe that positive things can happen, you start looking differently. You notice opportunities you might previously have ignored. You become more willing to speak to people, try something new and take the chance you would once have talked yourself out of taking.

And sometimes the most positive thing that happens is not that life gives you exactly what you wanted. It is that something unexpected happens that turns out to be even better.

So don't spend your life waiting for something to go wrong. Expect possibility. Look for the good. Give yourself permission to believe that tomorrow might contain something wonderful that you cannot see today. Because positive things really can happen. But sometimes, before they can happen, you have to believe they are possible.
